Re: Punctuation Wars: The Comic Book
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 9:58 AMI would just like to state that extraneous ellipses being banished to Uranus is highly offensive to me.

Tue, April 15, 2008 - 11:39 AMMy grammar nazi is kicking in.
**Ahem**
Although that is a commonly accepted use of an elipse, it is incorrect.
The proper use of an elipse is when paraphrasing and leaving parts of a sentence or paragraph out.
BWAHAHAHAAAA!!!!
Just sayin'.......

Re: Punctuation Wars: The Comic Book
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 11:56 AMyes, i'm an english major. actually, you're supposed to put a period at the end of whatever you're cutting off and the ellipse shows that something has been left out.
but i way overuse ellipses because breaking punctuation rules is fun. i'm a writer, not a grammarian. :-) -

Re: Punctuation Wars: The Comic Book
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 11:59 AMOh I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone in particular. I was just stating a fact...and I overuse elipses all...the...time!!!

Re: Punctuation Wars: The Comic Book
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 3:42 PMi think elipses are my only real form of punctuation....perhaps a semi-colon could be added;;;;;;

Re: Punctuation Wars: The Comic Book
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 4:45 PMAnd then there is rampant misapostrophization - I get pretty possessive - er, obsessive - when it comes to the misuse and abuse of contractions, as well as when people don't mind their p's and q's. Know what I mean . . . ? Thank's, you guy's! ;o) -
