I was wondering yesterday how many of my tribe friends I've met in person. and then this morning one of them posted a blog about how many people on their friends lists they had met face to face...
So I'm wondering about you guys. How many of the people on your tribe friends list have you met in person? How many of them did you meet somewhere else(like another web site) first? how many did you know in person before tribe? and how many people on your friends list does it really really feel like you've met face to face even though you know you haven't?

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:54 AMHow many have I met?
All seven, years ago...
They are friends/family from the Guild of St. George, the group that plays Queen Elizabeth I's court at many California RenFaires. Tribe.net is where we get together between rehearsals and faires.

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:56 AMoooh, what a wonderful question!
i have a few tribe friends who are just kind of random people who friended me, but i'm usually pretty careful about who i accept requests from. i like to have had some discussions with them first.
i've met quite a few face-to-face. usually after we've been tribe friends for some time...as a matter of fact, one person i met randomly on tribe happens to be one of my very closest friends now, as we decided to go out for drinks when i was in his neck of the woods and we hit it off so well. i've dated a few of my tribe friends, and i have also engaged in a few "internet flings" with people on my friends list who were quite distant, so we never met in person, but we had some times :-)
i also have a core of really supportive, wonderful tribe-friends who i've never met in person, but who i consider friends in a very real sense of the word. there is a really high caliber of great people here on tribe. -

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 10:27 AMthis took awhile, but I can happily say that out of 277 tribe friends, so far I have met 115. I didn't think it would be as much, but I guess The Church of Pie helps. I have still to meet ms Strongvoice, but someday hope to see her in RL and give her a hug. -

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:30 AMok, I got a chance to count so I could answer my own question. I have met 51 of my 130 tribe friends in person and I can't even tell you how many others it's just down right bizarre that I have not met in person!
I have met other tribers as well who aren't on my friends list so it occurs to me I've met alot of tribers(o:
6 of my tribe friends I knew in person before tribe. One of those invited me to tribe...the rest I invited(o: and then there are several who I met on other sites and invited them here, later meeting 2 of them in person if I'm counting right. -

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:46 AMoh, you want actual numbers? geez, make it hard! lol!
6 i've met IRL are on my actual friends list. 3 i've never met but exchanged emails/IMs with. several i've only communicated with on tribe but value highly as friends - i don't think i could count those! :-)

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:59 AMNone ^^; I've only been on it for a few months, and honestly pretty much everyone is in California somewhere. I MIGHT be meeting someone in a few months though, maybe, if Master lets me and things work out perfectly.

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 10:16 AMi've met three, but they are my kids so that probably doesn't count. being off in indiana means not many tribe people around to meet. -
-
Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 10:24 AMI thought you were in Oregon for awhile there? -
-
Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:22 PMeastern oregon. there's no one there either. but i could have met some people if i'd been on the ball, it would have only been about a 5 hour drive. In fact, i was going to meet someone at the Shakespeare festival, but then I moved back to indiana first.

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 10:24 AMSome people on my friends list are RL friends (but we don't use tribe for communicating with each other much) and I see them in RL, and the rest of you are in another country and on the other side of the continent, or the other side of the planet. Some of my tribe friends are people I'd know I'd enjoy just as much, if not more, in RL and I'd definitely love and be curious to meet. Some I barely know or interact with - I'm more into the hanging out around the virtual water cooler aspect of tribe (minus the office gossiping for the most part!).

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 12:53 PMI know 3 of my friends on my list who live in NZ..I introduced them to tribe.
Sadly I have met no one else...yet!
-
Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:55 PMWow I was surprised - I've met 52 of my 70 tribe friends!
I'm not much of a friend collector, usually I meet someone IRL first, then add 'em as a tribester. But there are a few people who have impressed me so much with their posts or their profiles that I've made friends.
OTOH, the only friend requests I seem to get are from gay men who live far away.
go figger...

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 2:15 PMWow... More than I thought... 185 out of 307

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 2:22 PMMost of the RL friends I have listed on my profile page, I met through tribe. I LOVE meeting my tribe friends! I have a few friends who unsubscribed from tribe but I've been able to stay in contact with them through email.
One of my tribe friends (a great guy I had planned to meet at BM), died unexpectedly, his profile is still up and I keep him in my list. A forever friend.
There are only about 3 or 4 who I knew outside of tribe and they aren't active on tribe, most of the people I meet outside of tribe have never heard of it. I invite them but I think it's a little intimidating if they aren't internet networking types.
There are a few I feel like I've met in RL even though I haven't and hope to meet eventually. They just live in other parts of the country.

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 3:43 PMa quick check of my first few pages of friends show that i've met 60% of them in person so that would be like 275 people... many of those are people who are part of my larger social circles in the electronic music/dance world or burning man -- then another 25 or 30% are people i met on tribe who i haven't yet met in real life, but want to.... and about 10-15% are people who i friended at some point for some reason (i don't accept really random friend requests) but today, i have no idea who the hell they are.
i did notice that as i went through to count who i knew in person, there were people who i counted as "yes" and then realized i just felt like i knew them so well, i had met them.. but hadn't.
meeting people from tribe is always fascinating.

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 6:01 PMWell, I have made it a bit of a rule not to friend folks unless I know them 3D or have an ongoing dialog with them and I occasionally go through and prune anybody I don't immediately recognize from my friends list (if I don't recognize you then we probably don't talk enough for you to qualify as a friend)
So, out of 82 friends I have met 58 of them. Of those 58 only seven of them met me after being friended to me on tribe. Only six of the 24 folks I have not met are not people
I know from this tribe and one of them is a friend of a friend who lives in Denver who I hope to meet someday. -
-
side note
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 6:03 PMShould I ever make it down to SanFran the number of folks I haven't met will likely drop to a fraction of its current number. -
-
side note to my side note
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 6:07 PMNot only have I met most of my friends but at least 29 of the folks on my friends list have seen me in my skivvies or less.
Of course that may say less about how well I know them than it says about how little it takes for me to strip down to my skivvies. -
-
Re: side note to my side note
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 7:55 PMor maybe it says something about the sort of places tribers gather(o:
I met for the first time one of my tribe friends at Body Manipulations and then we all took off our tops(there were other fantastic tribe women there with me for my birthday gift) and then I got my nipples pierced. Hmm so come to think of it a fair number of my tribe friends have seen me nakey to some extent...that is another good question(o: -
-
Re: side note to my side note
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:45 PMOf my 76 Tribe Friends, I knew five prior to joining Tribe (SV invited me here, and quickly got me hooked!). I've met 26 more people since joining, and I refuse to give a number that may have seen me partially or fully "nakey."
In May, I'll be meeting at least three more Tribe friends!!! -

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 6:16 PMi've met 9 in person
5 i met on other web sites and introduced to Tribe
i knew 1 person before Tribe (he introduced me)
there are about 10 that i feel very close to, like real friends, even though we've never actually met in RL

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 7:52 PMOf my 115 tribe friends, I've met 44 face to face. There are about 4 other tribers I've met who aren't on my list. I think 9 I knew outside of tribe first. And there are a couple that it seems really weird to me that I haven't met face to face yet.
-
Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:13 PMTo date, I've met seven of the people on my friend's list. It seems like more, though, because their personalities are so wide. They're all wonderful people! -

Re: tribe friends
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 1:19 PMWell, I just did the math, and I've either met since friending, or already know IRL 45 of my 98 Tribe-friends. I have a strong feeling of connection - granted, could be completely one-sided - or have had some sweet interactions with 30 more of them, but haven't yet met them in real life. Of the 23 that remain, I have varying understandings of why they have either chosen to become or remain being my "friend", but I appreciate their spirits and energy, that which I know of them. It's an interesting li'l microcosm we have here . . . ;o)
I've met so many lovely Tribe people, for which I am eternally changed and grateful. So many of you have touched my heart (o.k., and at least one of you has touched my booty). Blessings, sweet ones! ~ Misha

Re: tribe friends
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:15 PMi have met in person 7 of my tribe friends ...
i met none of my tribe friends in other places on the web ...
i have known the same 7 tribe friends (mentioned previously) before tribe ...
i feel as if i have *known almost all of my tribe friends--but *really really* (with emphasis) i feel this way about maybe half. i value their input and their very presence ... i like them a lot that is what i will say. -

Re: tribe friends
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:28 PMI have met 77 out of 136 of my tribe friends. Several I met before I was on tribe, one invited me, some are related to me.
And then there are the ones I cannot believe I don't know in the flesh. -

Re: tribe friends
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 1:39 PMi've met 8 of my 32 tribe-friends in person. 2 of them at one event, one of whom introduced me to tribe. another i knew previously. another i met at a melvins show & either we became friends from that or later discovered w were already friends, i don't remember. the other i've met through this site. there are a few others i'd love to meet in person, & a few more i'd like to meet in person. some other ones i don't really think about, because they're in places i'll most likely never get to, etc. -

Re: tribe friends
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 3:32 PMi can't meet most of you san francisco-ers myself (at least, not yet) but if you happen past 2199 Market street for the art show opening tonight (saturday), my youngest daughter anna is one of the volunteers there, you can say hi to her. she's just like me except young, female, a college graduate, and a bit shorter. I posted the event here, it sounds fun. -

Re: tribe friends
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 10:05 PMWow - 52 out of 112, although there are at least 4 "friends" that are things like "Love is Everything" or groups ... I only knew one person before tribe, the rest I friended on tribe, and then met IRL. There are at least another dozen that it feels like I know, only I've never actually met them ...

Re: tribe friends
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 12:23 AMI've only met one, whom I had already met before I joined tribe. He's in India right now, keeping our tribe "posted". It was very cool to see the blog entries. I had sort of forgotten he was still over there.

Re: tribe friends
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 11:23 AMI love this question SV! If you look at my profile, you'll find most of the answers there, but I'll elaborate for this thread.
How many of the people on your tribe friends list have you met in person? 22
How many of them did you meet somewhere else(like another web site) first? 3
how many did you know in person before tribe? 4
how many people on your friends list does it really really feel like you've met face to face even though you know you haven't? Far too many...45 or so.
The trips I took to San Fransisco two years ago were set up partly with the intent to meet many of my tribe friends. I made some wonderful connections and the experience changed my life. I am forever grateful for this. -
