Tribe But it seems the instability and the migration are reaching a critical state. It get's frustrating when there are few if any interesting posts.

That being said I have both a Facebook and Myspace. I use myspace to connect with folks who i go to school with <while I am 40 most of them are 20 somethings>

facebook is definitely a site with a slightly older and more affluent user base. Many of my business contacts and professional friends are followed through that site.

I find it very hard connecting with anyone at MySpace...

Has to be Facebook. I don't find MySpace very appealing. Both of them are way better than Bebo. Now that's one site I dislike the most.

facecrack is where I find I'm hanging out mostly (and I'm 40, too, angel). I do post things sometimes that come across as *scandalous* to my more vanilla friends, but I'm being authentic. Maybe Tribe spoiled me in that way. I've definitely felt some life-long friends distancing themselves after certain posts; I'm bi, pagan, and poly, and there can be HUGE judgment in any one of those facets, and it hasn't been something I just bring up easily in face-to-face conversations, so when it does come up, it feels like an albatross of sorts. What do you do? :o)

Definitely Facecrack! I'm with Misha, a few of my postings have raised some eyebrows, which is why no one from work gets friended. I have a hard enough time scandalizing my family and old friends!

BTW, I should have said I AGREE with Misha rather than being WITH her. Don't want to create yet more scandals and eyebrow raising. :-P

Facebook for anything that is completely devoid of anything controversial or suggestive.

I have a whole bunch of teenage friends on there because of my work with volunteer groups. It is kind of interesting to see how they function on those sites, see what my kids are up to, and be aware of the drama that goes on. But it is a good place for innocuous babble

But for growed-up stuff, Tribe is the place. I keep hoping it will gear up again. But then, I guess I have to contribute more.

    Curse you introvertedness!

i hate myspace, never have used it.

facebook is a great way to connect with the masses, people i went to school with, relatives, people i know just superficially. the groups there are lame, and it doesn't really lend itself to real conversation.

to me, there is no place like tribe. it's sad to see it slip into oblivion, since it's been such a big part of my life, and has built so many connections for me, over the years.

I have a myspace, but I never go on there. Maybe once every six months I get some kind of message and go check in.

I have a facebook and I like it. I don't love it like I do Tribe though. I have two, one for people from school and whatever to find me that I never check and one for the people I want to keep up with. It works well that way.

Frankly, I prefer Tribe, as there's a better quality of people.

If forced to choose between the two, then I would say Facebook. I've run into far more old friends there, and have enjoyed reconnecting.

Myspace used to be the place to go but it's gotten overloaded with hustlers, ads, boring bloggers, and folks who insist on putting music on their pages with the volume cranked up. I almost never visit my Myspace page anymore.

i'm on FB most of the time now, tho' i still check into 1 tribe here fairly regularly, and a couple of others more (like this one) sporadically.

don't like MySpace at all, never go there unless following a link on rare occasion, never joined. Besides, anything Rupert Murdoch owns automatically bites. Like Fox "News".
The alt culture of Tribe is special, but i get sick of how erratic access is, & how slow navigating btwn pages can be. For about a year now, I haven't been able to upload anything to my album, or crop photos for my avatar. I was a paying member for awhile, but it somehow disconnected that, & given all the gliches, coupled w/ the lack of ability or desire to respond, I didn't renew.

I've tweaked my privacy settings on FB in a way that lets me feel fairly free there- you can allow access to many posts differently for various people on yr list. Everything i do and post doesn't show up on everyone's wall and home pages. I don't use my real last name, nor my true birth date, to foil the info-gathering somewhat.
Still, I do censor myself on some subjects. No detailed or explicit sex talk there, for example. No detailed altered states substance warhorse stories. (Besides, I'm a mature woman, w/ nothing to prove, & here are definite limits to what I'll post online about some stuff, anywhere, period).I don't use many apps, because they gather more info for more marketers, & are too much of an additional time-suck. It's not as easy for people to find me w/ a fake last name, but I've still re-connected w/ some old friends & far-flung family. I limit my friends list to people i know and like in RL, and a few long-time Tribe friends i haven't met but will at some point, and have built trust w/ over years.

I'm self-employed, & don't have really conservative people i'm at all close w/ in my family or life , so I'm able to be mostly myself on FB. My teenage niece & I are close, but have decided to use regular email, not FB to stay in touch online. Boundaries, lol. My brother & I are FB friends.
Been frankly surprised how well FB is working for me... The people I've become closest w/ on Tribe on there, & some of us have just formed a private group similar to one we've had on Tribe. The setup for groups isn't as good for easily seeing & following group thread subjects isn't as good as the one on Tribe, but once you know how to navigate it, it's OK. Similar to Ning.

I like FB's status updates because I,m lucky enough to know a lot of interesting, articulate people, & that means more interesting posts! i like seeing slices of their days, and sharing a little of mine. More local friends are on there, & we use it for invites to parties & events. What i like best, is that it's become a way to connect the web of my various social worlds easily.

But Tribe is unique... I'm grateful for the connections it's brought me.

FB is where I have found so many of my old friends. Just easier to network. I love tribe though because of the discussion boards/tribes can be much more fun than FB and it isn't crowded with all sorts of time wasting applications.
