...since my 6th grade class toured the Dow Chemical plant. -- A thought that came to me on looking at the "GreatGlam.com clothing store" ads that have been popping up on Tribe for a while now. Sheesh.

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 6:49 AMSweet baby Jesus in a deep fat friar! I'm eclectic and gutsy enough that damn near any clothing site has at least SOMETHING on it I could pull off, but this one makes it difficult. There's maybe one or two things that are OK but for the most part the women are wretched, the clothing is wretched, the site design is wretched....... ew.

Tue, May 6, 2008 - 7:04 AMI was just thinking I bet they don't even bounce when they run. and then I looked at their skinny ass legs and realized there is no running going on.
I'm sorry, were they advertising clothes? I didn't notice. -

In "LA Story," Steve Martin says to Sara Jessica Parker,

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 7:14 PMNever underestimate the power of Photoshop! :)
Somebody believes that women can have huge breasts, tiny waists and stick legs. These girls want to further that misconception. I haven't met these bodies yet, but if I do, I'll be happy to show them my nice big tits and my properly sized thighs :) If they faint at the sight of a normal sized thigh or a breast who's nipple is in the middle, not the top (ewwww), I'll be happy to take their wallet and buy them a clue.
Oy, I am feeling snarky today! -

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 11:05 PMSeeing them in person is worse!
I was once invited up to Reno for a "Miss Eldorado" contest. No, I was not a contestant. The women were almost ALL fake, with boob jobs and nose jobs. I was amazed. They paid no attention to me until my male friend gave me his voting card. Once I had that card, they wanted to talk to me! It was so weird to watch these women coming on to men for their votes...and watching these high rollers decide which ones they were going to try to take home. My friend had a party up in his room with two of them.
So I voted for the ONE woman that did not have fake boobs...and she was an elementary teacher. Needless to say, she came in near last.
And as for that website, the clothes for "Larger women" stop at a size 1X...at least for the five I clicked on. (BTW, I often click on tribe ads just to put a penny in their pocket...I really was not interested in the clothes.) -

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:15 AMMost true FiFi... and I have been with every body type from 4'1" petite doll to a 6’1” 300+ pound Amazon and every type in between… I should have said that At this time of my life I prefer as my companion a woman with curves, for my last serious relationship was with a woman who was to put it politely very slim, and she for many reasons left a Bad taste behind her… to me there is just something wonderful about wrapping my arms around a woman and holding her tight and Feeling her flesh not her bones… -

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:29 AMThat's cool, everyone has a personal taste and obviously it's possible (likely even) that we'll develop personal prejudices and preferences based on our experiences and upbringing.
It's just the idea that there's one way "real" women look that I wanted to shed some light on. -
-
Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 1:53 PMI agree. I'm one of the curvy girls for sure...but I have seen a sort of backlash against slimmer women that bothers me.
The point is for everyone to be themselves and feel good about that, not to make any group feel bad about themselves. -

Actually Miele, all of those pictures have had some serious cropping in PS so much so that none of the models have so much as one stray hair in any of the photos. Also all the of "spare" body shape has been amateurishly hacked off the models so that they look more like paper dolls than fashion models.
They need more budget for non hack PS jockeys. -

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 4:18 PMThese days you can just assume that any person you see in an add has been Photoshopped. Hell, they even 'shopped me when they printed my picture in the Rapid City Journal (I was a teenager and had the complexion of one). Those women in the magazines who make you feel like you aren't pretty? Yeah, they aren't THAT pretty either, and I can make you look just like them with some time on my computer. -

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 4:50 PMtotally! I was trying to explain that to a friend of mine. When she told me she wasn't attractive I asked so who is? You are surrounded by all of these woman who are all regular looking and all are loved and desires...why not you? and she tried to tell me she was being realistic to expect herself to be a certain level of attractiveness and I said so who do you think is attractive? and she thought that Lauren Graham www.imdb.com/name/nm0334179/ was attractive in a not unrealistic to achieve way. I tried to explain that even she isn't as attractive as her character. -

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 4:33 PMHmm I want to say totally! but I don't think that is it. I think that is by far the sexiest thing but there are all kinds of other things.
I had one friend growing up who one of my other friends called "Monkey Girl" and who I admit though I loved her looked a wee bit like a monchichi. She had tons of dark hair...even to the point of almost having lambchops. She was shaped like a barrel, neither thin nor curvy just thick. And she always always always had guys chasing her around. Always. I like to think it was because she was funny and a good friend, but I have no idea what it might have been. But I do know that I have tons of amazing woman friends none of whom look like the "Ideal" and all of whom have men interested in them and most of whom have at least some doubts about their attractiveness.
I also know that even the most gorgeous woman I have ever been in the same room with has her doubts and issues.

Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 4:20 PMYeah, TONS of fake boobs. And their clothes only really work if you have fake boobs. As is the case with most lowcut polyblend crap that the industry pumps out. -
-
Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 5:31 PMahem, whats wrong with lowcut polyblends? and uh what are polyblends? -
-
Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 7:26 PMpolyblend = polyester blended with some other kind of fabric. Polyester and cotton and/or spandex are very common. A lot of folks don't like wearing polyester, though I'm fine with it. I've seen the polyester clothing my mom grew up with and can understand her antipathy towards the fabric but the polyblend clothing of today doesn't bother me at all. -
-
Re: I haven't seen that much silicone in one place....
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 4:34 PMpolyblend should totally mean something more interesting than that!
Maybe we should make an urgan dictionary entry for Moly and the definition would be Polyblend -
-
Wiki entry
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 11:25 AMPolyblend: incorporating two or more styles of Polyamory.
For example, living with multiple partners AND having "Friends with Benefits". -
-
Re: Wiki entry
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 11:54 AMoooh good one. Or maybe it's
polyblend: incorporating some elements of polyamory and/or polyfuckery with elements traditionally associated with monogamy...or maybe that's Moly... -
-
Re: Wiki entry
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 5:17 PMOr polyblend could be when two poly families merge -
