...that doesn't watch nor has the desire to watch Sex and the City? Just wondering.

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 3:47 PMI've only ever seen a few minutes of one episode that was playing in the background of a party I was at. Didn't seem too interesting to me.

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 3:59 PMYou're not alone, sweetie - I found the first season of "The L-Word" *far* more compelling than any single "Sex in the City" episode I happened to catch. Different strokes and all. Truthfully, for either show, I wouldn't want almost ANY women similar to those characters in my life. Give me substance and self-awareness any day!

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 4:30 PMYeah. you are.

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 6:55 PMI love it, but I have friends who don't.
I used to think I was the only person that didn't love Seinfeld and Friends. Now I'm the one who has never seen House or Lost.
My favorite women in a TV show are still the lushes of AbFab. -

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 7:45 PMI love it. I've rented all the DVDs, which, BTW are a hell of a lot racier than the cut-down repeats on reg. TV. The hilarious one w/ "Mr. Pussy" never made it to re-runs.
I grew up in NY, & now live on the west coast, so it's like a little visit back to my home city.
I think the writing is pretty witty at times. It's nice to see intelligent, (for TV) women who support one another as central characters, & are sexual being w/o portrayed as one-dimensional bimbos or dragon ladies. It's definitely broken some barriers.
I find the shows are a lot of fun. I mean, c'mon... who in real life could afford those clothes? Even the awful fashion victim ones are fun to dis. Or have hot & cold running men available, or that kind of real estate? It's a hoot to recognize some similarities to men my friends & I have dated (or just boffed)...An entertaining blend of utter fantasy w/ some wry reality. And yeah... some of the characters may not be as far out as you think. Charlotte's uber-WASP old money first husband who said "alrighty"? Those people really exist. So do some of the other characters who've come & gone.
Of course few NYers live in a world anything like the one portrayed in Sex & the City... Steve, the Irish-Catholic bartender from a Brooklyn working-class background is a lot closer to RL. Naturally he marries Miranda the lawyer & they move to a gorgeous brownstone in Brooklyn, which is actually the hipster place these days... Heheh... the semi- slum my grandparents worked their way out of is now primo spendy real estate.
And yes, I know a few women who don't care for Sex & the City, & a few straight guys that love it. It's just a TV show... Hey, I also like "The Deadliest Catch", about fisherman in the Bering Sea. How macha is that?
I'd love to see an episode called "Girlfriends Getaway to Red Hook." Wherein the ladies meet actual people of color, & shop for hair extensions where the sistas do. -

I am not alone!!!
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 8:44 PMI haven't seen any Sex and the City...ever. Nor have I seen the L Word, but I have heard great things about them both. My desire to follow the mainstream media is not at the top of my to do list. It is true I like "popular" TV shows, but if it was popular before I started watching it it is different. Its too much like jumping on a TV wagon. I dunno, guess I just would rather *have* sex in the city ya know?!

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Sat, June 28, 2008 - 6:38 PMI especially like DVDs because I'm a rabid insomniac. (Once played a particularly great drinking game to Ab Fab, which was perfect). I read real books, too. Have a more home time logged lately due to health issues... But yes, I agree sex in IN the city, or on a sailboat, & RL in general, is a lot more interesting than TV.
Du-uh!

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 8:29 AMAbFab was wonderful! We need more women like Patsy and Adena, if only to make us feel better about ourselves :D I never got into Sex and the City. My roommate has the first season on DVD, so at her prompting I watched the first episode, but was never interested enough to watch more. She did get me into America's Next Top Model, though, so I can't claim that I don't like "girly tv"...and I must admit to owning the first series of Desperate Housewives, though I lost track of what was going on currently in the show ages ago.

Sat, June 28, 2008 - 11:56 AMYou are not alone.
The only time I've ever watched it was when I was at a friend's house and she just couldn't miss it. I did not like it at all. Still don't. Hate it in fact for so many reasons, but don't get me started.

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Sat, June 28, 2008 - 2:13 PMLet's see -- watching "Sex and the City" or hanging around naked on a sailboat....hmmmm.....no brainer! -

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Sat, June 28, 2008 - 2:22 PMYeah I have it pretty good since haha. Sailing 7 or more months a year keeps me from rotting in front of a TV. I don't suffer much lol.

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Sat, June 28, 2008 - 11:28 PMSex in the city is one of my fav shows along with the L word. I don't have cable and get DVD's all the time and have all day n nighters watching them when I need down time. If I had that kind of money to go shopping for Manolo Blahnik's sp I would be in heaven. -

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Sun, June 29, 2008 - 9:37 PMWell, speaking from the other side of the fence, I've never seen it either. And that's odd, because (even though I'm a guy) I've seen just about everything else that Chris Noth has appeared in. I really like his work, and it'd be great to see him in SatC. But, no, I've not seen the series, and I'll probably wait until the movie is on cable.

Re: Am I the only woman in the world...
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 12:34 PMit runs in syndication on channel 4 here, biteme, which is how i have seen it, since i don't have cable either... the first time i saw it was when i first lived in thailand and got invited to a cafe where the cable channel was doing a marathon. i thought it was the most idiotic thing i had ever seen, those women are nothing like anyone i would want to know...
then i started having it on in the background at night when i was working, and got pulled into it, and it's pretty damned good entertainment. sometimes it's even thought provoking. those women are still not like anyone i would want to know, but that's not a requirement for tv shows.
i saw the new movie in bangkok last week, at a big slick new theater complex where the next show was in the super-fancy v.i.p. screening room... a big theater, but with only 30 seats, each a big reclining chair, with pillows and blankets and waiters. it cost frickin' 20 bucks, when the regular theater is 3 bucks. i was as interested in who else was willing to pay that kind of money as much as i was in the film.
then i bought a bootleg copy of the film on the street, only to get home and find it was one of those hand-held-cameras-in-the-theater videos where you can hear the person sitting next to the one with the camera opening their candy and laughing at the jokes. oh well. it really wasn't worth watching twice anyway ;^)
